GPB to broadcast the Georgia Amateur Championship

The Georgia Amateur Championship will be televised by Georgia Public Broadcasting.

GPB will broadcast a special on the Georgia Amateur, which begins Thursday, July 10 at Idle Hour Club, on Saturday, July 19. The special is scheduled to air from 6-7 p.m.

"We are excited and honored to have our state championship televised by Georgia Public Broadcasting," GSGA President Chuck Palmer said in a press release. "This unique opportunity will showcase the storied tradition that is the Georgia Amateur Championship. We would like to thank both Governor Deal's office and Georgia Public Broadcasting for assisting in this project."

Idle Hour last hosted the Georgia Amateur in 2008, when then 19-year-old Russell Henley beat his University of Georgia teammate Harris English to win the first of two straight Amateur championships. Both players have won two tournaments on the PGA Tour and Henley, who called Idle Hour his home club, has five overall professional wins.

"Georgia Public Broadcasting's decision to cover the Georgia Amateur Championship underlines its commitment to programming that's locally driven, unique and pertinent to all Georgians," said Georgia Governor Nathan Deal. "Georgia boasts incredible golf courses that provide a source of recreation and a boon to our economy. This program will give Georgians a chance to see their neighbors on the small screen, and the high level of skill on the course will give a sense of pride to us all."
