Playing the third game in less than three days, the Macon Mayhem gave up a late third-period goal and an empty-net goal in a 4-2 loss to the Fayetteville FireAntz on Sunday in Fayetteville, North Carolina

The Mayhem did win two out of the three games they played during the weekend. Fayetteville had not played Saturday night, while the Mayhem won at home against Pensacola, then made the trip for the late matinee affair in North Carolina.

Things started well for the Mayhem as Michael Wills scored his fifth goal of the season at 5:05 of the first period. A power play goal by Stephen Pierog midway through the period made it 2-0 for Macon. But Fayetteville's Joseph Manno scored with only two seconds left in the period to cut the lead to 2-1.

Josh McQuade scored the only goal of the second period with a little less than three minutes left, to tie the game at 2. In the third, Manno got his second goal of the game at the 17:03 mark. With Mayhem goaltender Garrett Bartus on the bench in favor of an extra attacker, Fayetteville's Kyle Gibbons scored into the empty net with five seconds left. Bartus was playing his first game since returning from the Adirondack Thunder of the ECHL.
