Fayetteville gets revenge on Macon

A night later, Fayetteville returned the favor.

Fayetteville got some revenge on Friday with a 5-2 win over Macon in SPHL action at the Macon Coliseum.

On Thursday, Macon picked up a 4-3 win in overtime at Fayettville.

This time, the FireAntz took control early and held it.

It took just 27 seconds for Fayetteville's Nick Lazorko to get behind the Mayhem defense and beat goaltender Garrett Bartus for a 1-0 lead.

Kyle Gibbons and Cole Wilson each scored in the second period for Fayetteville to stretch the lead to 3-0.

The Mayhem staged a mini rally at the start of the third period on goals by Daniel Gentzler at 3:45 and Ryan Michel exactly eight minutes later. Ahead by just a goal, Lazorko got his second goal with 5:41 to put Fayetteville back in control.

With Bartus off in favor of an extra attacker, Gibbons scored his second of the night into the empty net with 1:58 left to play.

Macon fell to 4-9-3 while second-place Fayettville improved to 11-2-2.

The Mayhem are back in action at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday against the visiting Knoxville Ice Bears.
