The Macon Mayhem topped Fayetteville on the road

Daniel Gentzler made the Fayetteville FireAntz pay in a big way.

His goal at 3:02 of overtime gave the Macon Mayhem a 4-3 victory Thursday over host Fayetteville.

The home team had promoted the game as "Guaranteed Win Night", promising fans a free ticket to the FireAntz game on December 27th (against Knoxville) if the FireAntz didn't win.

Gentzler bought 1,970 fans a ticket to that game. Gentzler and Matt Robertson had assisted on Austin Daae's 5-on-3 power play goal in the third period that tied the game and forced the overtime. That was the only goal of the third period.

Shawn Skelly opened the scoring for the Mayhem at 5:36 of the first period. He later assisted on Vadim Guskov's goal that tied the game at 2 in the first period, as well as Gentzler's game-winner. Skelly's goal and two assists give him four goals and five assists for nine points in seven games with the Mayhem.

After his goal opened the scoring, Fayetteville answered by on goals by Joseph Manno and Berkley Scott, before Guskov tied the game at two.

Kyle Gibbons had the only goal of the second period, giving Fayetteville a 3-2 lead at 13:33. But Guskov's tying goal, and then Gentzler's overtime winner kept Fayetteville from making good on its guarantee.

The same two teams meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Macon Coliseum, the Mayhem's first home game in three weeks and the start of a four-game homestand.
