Macon Mayhem fall to Pensacola Ice Flyers in SPHL action

Two goals in the latter stages of the first period set the tone for the Pensacola Ice Flyers' 4-1 victory Saturday over the Macon Mayhem at the Macon Coliseum.

Pensacola scored twice in the final nine minutes of the first period to take a 2-1 lead, then the Ice Flyers kept the Mayhem off the scoreboard the rest of the way.

Daniel Gentzler scored Macon's lone goal, 2:39 into the contest. Corey Banfield picked up a hat trick for Pensacola, which outshot Macon 37-29.

The Mayhem host Columbus in a 4:30 p.m. matinee Sunday.
