Mayhem seeking to rebound against Fayetteville
The Macon Mayhem will have their eyes on redemption this weekend as Fayetteville comes to town for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday nights at the Macon Coliseum.
Macon picked up just one point last weekend, the single marker coming by way of an overtime loss to Evansville.
Saturday’s game against the Marksmen will have a Christmas feel to it both during the action and in between. The Mayhem will wear specially designed “Ugly Christmas Sweater” jerseys, and fans will be able to bid on the jerseys worn during the game with a portion of the auction proceeds going to the Beverly Knight Olson Children’s Hospital, Navicent Health.
Fans are also encouraged to bring new or lightly used teddy bears to throw onto the ice following the Mayhem’s first goal on Saturday as part of the annual Teddy Bear Toss. Teddy bears will be donated to the children’s hospital.
OFFENSIVE FEAST ON THE WAY?
On paper, the Mayhem stand to have a big weekend in the scoring department against Fayetteville. Macon is in a three-way tie for the most goals scored in the SPHL with 57. The Marksmen have given up 80, more than any team in the league.
Daniel Gentzler’s 20 points, 17 of which are by assist, continue to lead the Mayhem in scoring followed by the 18 (nine goals and nine assists) of Jake Trask and 15 points (seven goals and eight assists) by Caleb Cameron.
ACTIVE WEEK FOR ROSTER MOVES
Mired in sixth place in the SPHL standings with a 7-5-4 record good for 18 points, the Mayhem’s roster has seen a significant shakeup this week by way of signings and a handful of others being loaned to ECHL teams.
Center Stephen Pierog was loaned to Atlanta of the ECHL on Sunday, before returning back to Macon a day later. Defenseman Eric Shand was also loaned to the ECHL this week, heading to Rapid City.
Macon will also take the ice on Friday with a pair of new faces on the scoring lines. Paul Russell will be suiting up, having arrived via trade from Roanoke in exchange for John Gustaffson. Seth Ronsberg, who was with the Mayhem in training camp before being among the final players cut, signed with the team earlier this week.
And the new faces extend toward the back end of Macon’s defense as well. Greg Dodds, who played six games for Pensacola earlier this season, was signed to give the team three goalies. While with the Ice Flyers, he was 3-3-0 with a 2.62 GAA (goals against average)
The Mayhem also placed forward Dylan Denomme on 21-day injured reserve. In seven games with Macon this year, he has four points courtesy of two goals and two assists.
