Ranking the Most Important Dolphins, No. 23: Veteran O-Lineman Could Fill Many Roles

The Miami Dolphins will head into training camp at the end of July with a totally different roster than the one that ended the 2025 season after an offseason overhaul that saw the departure of several significant veterans and the arrival of newcomers young and old.

After their roster moves Monday, followed by the signing of former UFL tackle Gottlieb Ayedze on Wednesday, the Dolphins have 91 players on their roster with the exemption they have for England-born rookie tight end Seydou Traore, a participant of the International Player Pathway Program.

As life goes in the NFL, no every player on the roster is equal, so we decided to rank all of them in terms of their importance to the Dolphins' success in the 2026 season. The list was determined on the basis of not just ability but also expected role and significance to the overall progress of the organization as it continues the rebuilding project that began with the hiring of Jon-Eric Sullivan as GM and Jeff Hafley as head coach.

This is part of a series that will run in the lead-up to start of training camp.

NUMBER 23: G/T JAMAREE SALYER

How he joined the Dolphins

Salyer signed with the Dolphins as an unrestricted free agent this offseason after spending his first four NFL seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Contract status

Like just about every other Dolphins free agent this year, Salyer signed a one-year deal (his for $1.3 million) that will make him an unrestricted free agent next spring - barring an extension.

His 2025 season

Salyer appeared in 13 games, the first time in his career he didn't play every game. He made five starts, all of them at left tackle, and the Chargers went 4-0 during a late-season stretch with him as a starter.

His projected role

Salyer is the ultimate wild card on the offensive line because of his versatility and experience, which includes 40 career starts at right guard and both tackle spots. At the very least, Salyer should be the top backup at tackle, which is significant given Austin Jackson's well-documented injury history. But Salyer also is a solid fall-back option at right guard if 2025 second-round pick Jonah Savaiinaea doesn't show in training camp he's ready to take a big step forward. Salyer did sit out the final two weeks of spring practices after being carted off the field with an injury, though head coach Jeff Hafley said at the time he didn't think the injury would be a long-term issue.
