Knights hope to keep momentum going from 2015
Windsor’s football team took another step in the right direction last year.
In Jimmy Watts’ first season as head coach in 2013, the Knights finished winless before winning five games in 2014 and nine last year. And Watts and his players are expecting even more from this season.
“Everyone has gotten better and worked hard this summer,” said Watts, whose team opens the season Friday at home against Heritage.
There are a few players Watts is leaning on this season to take his program to the next level, and that begins with senior wide receiver Marquise Jackson, a standout on offense and defense. Last year, he rushed for 682 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also had 853 yards and 18 touchdowns receiving. On defense, Jackson had 77 returning tackles and 16 interceptions, including six he returned for touchdowns.
Senior wide receiver Jai’kez Mann is also a force to be reckoned with.
“Watch out for Jai’kez and Marquise,” Watts said. “They will definitely make a huge impact.”
Watts is also looking forward to the return of running back Jameson Lee. The 5-foot-11 junior suffered from an ACL injury last season, but Watts said he is healed and ready to go.
