Veterans baseball standouts make commitments
Veterans baseball standouts Gabe Holt and Leyton Pinckney are used to winning with the Warhawks, and that likely won’t change much with the pair announcing commitments a day apart to a pair of pretty good college baseball programs.
Holt de-committed from Winthrop, and announced Sunday on Twitter that he has now committed to Texas Tech, while teammate Pinckney — working hard these days as the Warhawks’ starting quarterback this season — announced his commitment to Mercer a day later.
Holt batted .376 last spring with three homers, 25 RBI and 18 steals in 20 attempts. The second baseman has made All-Middle Georgia first or second team all three seasons on the varsity roster.
Texas Tech finished 47-20 last season, including 19-5 in the Big 12. It went 1-2 in the College World Series and was a consensus top-six team in final polls.
Pinckney, a catcher, is a two-time All-Middle Georgia selection who batted .330 with five homers and 37 RBI this spring.
Mercer has reached the NCAA Tournament in three of the past seven seasons and is one of only seven Division I programs to win at least 35 games the past seven seasons.
