Championship series delayed to Monday for Houston County baseball

Weather forced a delay in determining the second team in the GHSA Class AAAAA baseball championship series, and Houston County found out mid-afternoon Wednesday that Loganville will be coming to town, two days later than scheduled.

The Bears beat Gainesville 2-0 on Tuesday night to clinch one spot, and Loganville held off host South Effingham 5-3 on Wednesday in that series’ Game 3 for the the other spot.

Weather forced the Red Devils and Mustangs to play Game 3 on Wednesday. The delay forced the championship series to be pushed back to Monday and Tuesday from its original Saturday-Monday schedule.

Monday’s first game is set for 4 p.m., and the second game to follow 30 minutes after the completion of the first game. The if-necessary third game is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Loganville, winner of the Class AAAA title in 2008 and 2012, is 28-7. Houston County, the 2014 Class AAAA champion, is 27-8.
