Middle Georgia soccer teams sidelined in semifinals

Middle Georgia won’t have a team in the GHSA soccer championships this weekend at Five Star Stadium, as the three remaining teams lost in Tuesday’s semifinals.

Riverwood’s goal with three minutes remaining sent the Houston County boys soccer team to a 1-0 defeat in Class AAAAA action in Sandy Springs.

Houston County finishes with a 17-2-1 record.

In Roswell, Fellowship Christian earned a return trip to the GHSA Class A girls soccer championship match with a 4-0 victory over Stratford.

Stratford (16-1) yielded three goals in the first half. The first came 10 minutes in, and the second came on a penalty kick nine minutes later. Fellowship added a goal with 40 seconds remaining until the break, then it scored again less than a minute into the second half.

Also Tuesday, the Putnam County boys soccer team lost 9-2 to Wesleyan in the GHSA Class AA semifinals in Eatonton.
