Mount Paran seemed to be a difficult first matchup in the GHSA Class A private school baseball playoffs for Tattnall Square. But the Trojans had other thoughts as they took the first game of the three-game series 7-2 on Friday.

The second game wasn’t completed by presstime.

Senior right-hander Cory Bartholomew threw a complete game with six strikeouts, while pitching through five walks.

Tattnall jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Mount Paran made Bartholomew work in the second inning and it was able to tie the score at 2.

Tattnall Square came right back in its half of the inning, scoring three runs with Garrett Houston delivering a huge single that scored two runs.

The Trojans continued to hit, scoring two more runs in the third with the key blow being a two-run homer off the bat off Luke Laskey. Bartholomew, a USC-Upstate signee, returned to his dominant ways and earned his eighth win. He allowed only four hits.

Nick DiPonzio had a hit to go with two walks, while Blake Simmons and Austin Marchman also had hits for Tattnall.
