John Milledge, GMC to meet on football field

John Milledge and GMC will meet on the football field for the first time in 29 years this fall, rekindling a rivalry between the two Milledgeville schools.

Thanks to a measure approved Monday by the GHSA that allows cross-association play in all sports, GMC will travel to John Milledge’s Trojan Field for a 7:30 p.m. contest on Oct. 7.

John Milledge is a GISA member, while GMC has been a GHSA member with the exception of a four-year stretch in the 1980s. John Milledge and GMC played in 1986 and 1987, with John Milledge winning 21-14 in 1986 and GMC prevailing 26-0 in 1987.

Both schools will conduct a pink-out fundraiser for the Georgia Cancer Treatment Center in Milledgeville, with the schools selling T-shirts for the occasion.

John Milledge head coach Steven Simpson and John Milledge head coach J.T. Wall were teammates at John Milledge, graduating in 1998.
