GHSA Class A brackets loaded with Middle Georgia teams

There are Middle Georgia teams all over the GHSA Class A basketball brackets that were released Wednesday.

Both the girls and boys teams from Stratford, Tattnall Square, FPD, Treutlen, Wilcox County, Taylor County and Hancock Central made their respective tournaments on the private and public side.

Hawkinsville and Wilkinson County joined the public school field on the boys side, with Telfair County, GMC and Wheeler County on the girls side.

FPD squeezed in, ranking 16th in the final power ratings for both the boys and the girls. The reward is a trip to the defending champions, Greenforest's boys and the St. Francis girls.

Six boys teams and six girls teams will be at home, with a matchup of Middle Georgia teams putting Wilcox County at Taylor County on both the boys and girls sides.

Treutlen and Wilkinson County had the same No. 1 ranking in public boys, with Treutlen getting the top seed.

Taylor County, Hancock Central and Hawkinsville are in the boys top seven. Treutlen and Hancock Central reached the semifinals last year.

Taylor County's girls are No. 3, followed by Wheeler County and Treutlen. GMC faces runner-up Turner County in the first round.

Stratford's boys and girls are both No. 6, two spots behind Tattnall's girls and three ahead of Tattnall's boys. Stratford announced Wednesday it would play a doubleheader Saturday. The girls will play at 2 p.m. against Southwest Atlanta Christian and the boys will play at 4 p.m. against The Walker School.

First-round games are at home sites, with the quarterfinals and semifinals at Kennesaw State (public schools) and Valdosta State (private schools).
