Jones County, Howard, Tattnall wrestlers reach title matches
Torrez Finney will wrestle for a repeat title Saturday in the GHSA traditional wrestling championships in Duluth.
The Jones County senior defeated Union Grove's Camden Johnson 15-11 in Friday night's semifinals to earn a spot in the Class AAAAA 195-pound championship, which Finney won last year. He will wrestle Tripp Breeden of Cass.
Howard's JaQwun Stinson also will wrestle for a title Saturday, as the senior pinned Upson-Lee's Bo Cummings in 1:34 to advance to the Class AAAA 195-pound final against Buford's Jack Ness.
Joining Finney and Stinson in the championship round will be Tattnall Square's Christian Rodgers, whose 7-5 overtime win over Mt. Zion (Carroll County)'s Daniel Anderson put him into the Class A 220-pound championship match against Micheal Patton of Commerce.
Also advancing to championship matches in Class AAAA were Crisp County's TK Clay at 152 pounds, Upson-Lee's Lazavier Moore at 220 pounds and West Laurens' Ben Deal at 152 pounds. Treutlen's Payton Brooks (120 pounds) and Cody Calhoun (195 pounds) also will wrestle in championship matches Saturday.
The consolation finals are scheduled to take place at 11 a.m., with the championship finals slated for a 3 p.m. start at Infinite Energy Arena, formerly the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
