Coin flip puts Jones County into third seed in Region 2-AAAAA tournament

By virtue of a coin flip, the Jones County boys basketball team drew the third seed in the GHSA Region 2-AAAAA tournament, and they will open against Greenbrier on Tuesday.

"We are glad to get to this point, a highlight of our season. It's what we worked for since day one," Greyhounds head coach for Jones County Dennis Woolfolk said. "We ended up in a coin flip, and like the other years before, we lost the coin flip,"

Jones County enters the region tournament on the heels of a 96-90 double overtime loss to Warner Robins to end the regular season.

"It was in our hands for the most part, and I was proud of my guys for doing that, but you have got to finish," Woolfolk said. "I'm really glad that was our last regular-season game because it gave us a gauge or a measuring stick as to how good we are,"

Coming off a high intensity regular-season matchup, Woolfolk he feels like his team has experienced some of what playoff basketball will be like.

"It felt like being in the state playoffs. That game really felt like it was that intense," Woolfolk said. "Some teams say that when tournament times start, you take it to another level, but we try to stay on that level all the time,"

Jones County is led by Devin Wooten, who will have to carry a large load in the region tournament as the Greyhounds will be without two starters. Starter Kylan Hill is out with a fractured ankle, while Nick Singleton is out because of what Woolfolk called "other issues inside the program."

"Our main guy Devin Wooten is our scorer. He has been carrying us all year offensively," Woolfolk said. "He has been asked to do some things more at this point in the season."
