The Tattnall Square Trojans were stretched to the limit by Mount de Sales on Friday night, but Trojans won their fourth straight GHSA Region 7A-A game Friday night 71-67. Senior Aubrien Kemp scored five of his 13 points in overtime to key the win. Sean Brown led Tattnall with 19 points while Adam Leverett and Garrett Thomson both had 19 for Mount de Sales.

Tattnall jumped out to an 18-13 lead late in the first quarter on the strength of Brown's eight points, but Mount de Sales cut the Trojans' lead to 18-16 at the end of the quarter on a banked-in 3-pointer from Jordan Edwards. The Cavaliers took a 31-24 lead late in the second quarter on a Tres Hattaway 3-pointer as they shot 62 percent from the field in the first half and led 32-30.

Tattnall Square made 4-of-8 free throws in the overtime, which was just enough to get past Mount de Sales, which ends the season at 8-14.

FOUR WHO MATTERED

Kemp: The senior had only two points at the half but scored 11 points in the fourth quarter and overtime.

Jimmy Marshall: the Tattnall junior had eight rebounds in the second half and 11 for the game and also scored 12 points, with 10 of those coming in the second half.

Leverett: The Mount de Sales junior scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Thomson: He scored 14 of his 19 points in the second half to keep the Cavaliers in the game.

ALSO FRIDAY NIGHT

The Tattnall girls (22-1) rolled to a 51-21 win. Allie Gordon led the way with 11 points while I'Vana Slaughter added 10 points. Renee Hutton had six for Mount de Sales.

THEY SAID IT

Mount de Sales head coach Jim Massey on the effort of his team. "When the kids play that hard, you have to be proud of them, and this was one of those games that we were playing for pride, and we gave a great effort. Of course, we are disappointed with a 2-8 region record, but I think this game has to leave a good taste in out mouth going into next year."

Tattnall head coach Jarvis Smith on the good and bad of Friday night's game. "I was not real pleased the way we defended the basketball, and we have to do a better job in that area, but I was very pleased the way we battled. People play to stop our guards but with Jimmy Marshall and Sean Brown playing well, we feel we can get the ball inside and score also."

Tattnall girls head coach Todd Whetsel on a somewhat surprising season. "I don't think after we lost five seniors from last year that anyone expected us to be 22-1, but we have played well. We are well aware that anything can happen in the playoffs, and everyone from now on will be good.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Tattnall girls will play a home game in the region tournament Tuesday, while the Tattnall boys will also play next week.
