GHSA passes final reclassification proposal

The GHSA's executive committee met Wednesday and officially approved, as expected, the region and reclassification plan for the next four years.

The vote wasn't anywhere near unanimous, primarily because of a "rider" to the proposal regarding single-gender schools, in particular Riverside Military Academy.

A related topic regarded the three percent out-of-district figure and single-gender school's enrollment figure being doubled.

An amendment regarding the placement of Riverside led to a number of "no" votes, but reclassification wasn't in jeopardy of being delayed.

The committee heard appeals from three schools requesting a transfer from one region to another for travel, and all were denied.

It also heard two appeals requesting a waiver of the three percent out-of-county rule that pushed those schools up one classification, and those were denied as well.

None of the schools appealing were from Middle Georgia.

The new reclassification period will cover four years instead of the traditional two years.
