Houston County's Jake Fromm tops area players on all-state team
With the program he has committed to play for competing in the college football national championship Monday night, Houston County's Jake Fromm will have added a little bit more to his resume.
The junior quarterback was a repeat selection as the top offensive player in GHSA Class AAAAA on the Georgia Sports Writers Association team released Saturday.
Running back J.D. King of Fitzgerald was the Class AA offensive player of the year.
Fromm was the first-team Class AAAAA quarterback and was joined on the first team by Jones County defensive lineman Torrez Finney, also a repeat performer.
Wide receivers Amari Colbert of Houston County and Nick Singleton of Jones County (a first-teamer last year) earned second-team honors. So did Warner Robins tight end Matt Trotter, Northside offensive lineman Caleb Kelly and Houston County offensive lineman Trey Hill.
Howard wide receiver Alphonso Stephens and Mary Persons offensive lineman Caleb Etheridge made the Class AAAA first-team offense, while defensive linemen Malik Herring of Mary Persons and David Marshall of Upson-Lee, Crisp County linebacker Markaviest Bryant and Mary Persons punter Drew Pack were first-teamers on defense.
Veterans' Matthew Hearst got a second-team spot on defense, and West Laurens place-kicker Bill Leroy was a second-team pick.
The first 1,000-yard receiver at Washington County was Markevese Latimer, and he made the Class AAA first-team offense.
Middle Georgia had three first-teamers on defense: Westside defensive lineman Kareem Warren, Peach County defensive back Tyrique McGhee and Dodge County defensive back Cameron Young.
McGhee and Young are also repeat performers.
Dodge County had a pair of second-teamers in offensive lineman Theron Cooper and linebacker Kyle Glover. They were joined on the second team by Westside linebacker Tradonis Causey and place-kicker Blaine Halvorson and Peach County linebacker Fletcher Hooks.
King was one of five area players on the Class AA first team, along with Macon County wideout Trey Brown, Dublin defensive lineman Robby Allison, Lamar County linebacker Pippin Davis and Macon County linebacker Kentarius Felton.
Fitzgerald put five players on the second team: tight end Lecitus Smith, offensive lineman Jason Poe, defensive lineman Darrius Hampton, defensive back Willie Ross and place-kicker Raul Martinez.
Also making the second team: Macon County running back Jared Daniels, offensive linemen Samuel Collins of Vidalia and Christian Meadows of Macon County, and Macon County's Raymond Smith (defensive line) and Curt McDonald (defensive back).
Quintez Cephus of Stratford earned a first-team spot in Class A at wide receiver along with Wheeler County tight end Kaleb Adams, while Dooly County defensive lineman Antonneous Clayton and Johnson County defensive back Ronquez Harden made it on defense, along with Montgomery County punter Jonathan Rogers.
Area second-teamers are place-kicker Brad Powell and punter Daniel Weaver of FPD, Weaver a returning selection.
Lanier defensive lineman and Georgia commit Derrick Brown is the all-classification player of the year.
