After three seasons as head coach, Clint Morgan and the Tattnall Square football program have parted ways.

Morgan, who spent seven years as the head coach at Bulloch Academy and also spent time as the head coach at David Emanuel and Frederica, said he wanted to move closer to Statesboro, where his wife runs a business.

"I've been thinking about it for a long time, with my wife's situation with the dance studio in Statesboro," Morgan said. "She's been my backbone. Since we left (Bulloch) five years ago, she's been driving two hours one way. It's time to do the right thing and not have to make that happen.

"She allowed me to live my dream. Now it's time to make it right and not make her have to make those trips."

Tattnall announced Morgan's move Friday afternoon in a release. Morgan's departure is effective at the end of the fall semester.

Morgan said he does not have a position lined up at this time.

"We are so appreciative of the leadership Clint has provided during his time at TSA," Tattnall athletics director Todd Whetsel said in the release. "While we regret his departure, we certainly wish him much success in his future endeavors."

Morgan, who helped bring Tattnall into the GHSA, went 22-11 in his three seasons at the school. The Trojans struggled this past season, however, going 4-6 as Morgan introduced a spread offense in the wake of heavy graduation losses.

The change in offenses was dramatic. Tattnall had run misdirection for years under former head coach Barney Hester, and Morgan kept Tattnall in a similar offense for the first two years of his tenure.

Tattnall lost six straight after a 3-0 start this past season, going 0-3 against its Macon-Bibb County primary private school rivals for the first time since 1986.

Hester was Tattnall's head coach from 1982-2012, winning 306 games and 11 GISA Class AAA titles at the school. He left to take over Howard's program, where he guided the eight-year-old program to its first winning season this year.

"I've been real happy here in Macon," Morgan said. "The people have been great, the community has been great. This last season wasn't a joy, but we went in it fighting together. The bottom line is, we all learned a lot.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Tattnall. Great, great school. Wish nothing but the best for them."

According to the release, Tattnall will begin its search for a new head coach in January. Tattnall joins Rutland and Toombs County as Middle Georgia high schools looking for new football head coaches.
