Windsor set for GISA semifinals
Windsor's football team is headed to GISA semifinals for the first time since 2007.
The Knights will face Robert Toombs on Friday in the Class AA semifinals in Lyons.
The winner advances to the championship game to be played next week at Mercer.
"It's been a long time since we've been in the playoffs and an even longer time since we've made it this far," Knights head coach Jimmy Watts said.
The Knights reached the semifinals with a nice revenge win last week, beating Piedmont 66-32. Piedmont knocked off Windsor in the regular season.
"(The win) kind of put a mark on the season, to let us know how far we've come," Watts said.
Watts took over as the program's head coach three years ago, and there has been steady growth since. Windsor is 9-3 this season.
"It shows growth in the program," Watt said.
The Knights beat Robert Toombs 44-43 during the regular season. The Crusaders are 7-5 on the season but have a "strong tradition," according to Watts.
The Crusaders have won five championships, including the Class A title in 2013.
