Windsor, Westfield set for GISA quarterfinals

Windsor and Westfield continue their trek toward a possible state title Friday night as they head into their GISA quarterfinal games.

Westfield (10-1) beat Trinity Christian 41-6 last week and will host Brookwood in the Class AAA quarterfinals.

Westfield is led by a strong starting offensive line, while Ryan Fitzpatrick, Josh Jenkins, and Giles Amos are all three-year starters who led the team to back-to-back titles.

Fitzpatrick has passed for 1,424 yards and 14 touchdowns, with Amos catching 27 passes for 539 yards and seven scores. Jenkins has 1,116 rushing yards this season and 16 touchdowns on the ground.

Brookwood is 10-2 and has won four of its past five games. The lone loss was by 17-14 to Valwood. Westfield's lone loss was to Valwood, 55-28 in the second game of the season.

"It gets tougher each week," Hornets head coach Ronnie Jones said. "Brookwood has a high-powered offense."

Windsor beat First Presbyterian Christian 58-22 last week in its first playoff game since 2011 and travels to Piedmont on Friday.

"It's been a while since Windsor's been in the playoffs," Knights head coach Jimmy Watts said. "The kids were excited about having the opportunity to play."

The Knights are 8-3, but they lost 48-42 to Piedmont during the regular season. Piedmont is 8-2 and enters the game riding a five-game winning streak.

"We're expecting a battle on Friday night," Watts said.

The Knights are on a three-game winning streak. Piedmont's lone losses have been to Gatewood and John Milledge.

Piedmont reached the title game a year ago, losing 42-35 to Memorial Day at Mercer's Five Star Stadium.
