GHSA CLASS AAAAA FIRST ROUND

South Effingham at Houston County: The visitors come from a pretty solid region with four playoff teams combining for a 32-5 record, and they are a quality fourth seed.

Ware County at Northside (6 p.m., Saturday): Fans from both sides have been waging message-board wars since August anticipating another postseason Gators-Eagles showdown.

Jones County at Glynn Academy: The No. 6 Greyhounds are 9-1 and the No. 10 Red Terrors are 8-2, both with wins over higher-ranked teams.

Warner Robins at Coffee: The Demons have a longer drive and better top-seeded opponent this year than last year, facing a team with four shutouts.

GHSA CLASS AAAA FIRST ROUND

Wayne County at Mary Persons: The Bulldogs welcome a struggling team that has lost six of its past seven games.

Veterans at Thomson: The Warhawks beat Washington County 38-21 two weeks after the Bulldogs topped the Golden Hawks 49-42 at home.

Burke County at West Laurens: Burke County's three losses are by a total of 26 points, while the Raiders' three losses are by 14.

Upson-Lee at Liberty County: The hosts haven't won a playoff game since 2009, the visitors since 2005.

GHSA CLASS AAA FIRST ROUND

Westside at Laney: The Seminoles open against a Laney team that has posted four straight shutouts after going 2-2 with a loss to Dublin (a team that did not qualify for the playoffs) to open the season.

Josey at Peach County: The good news for Peach County? The Trojans host a 6-4 Eagles squad that has given up 107 points in its past three games. The bad news for Peach County? A win likely means a trip next week to top-ranked Calhoun, last year's champion.

Jackson-Atlanta at Dodge County: The Indians ran the table during the regular season, with the reward being a first-round home game against a 6-4 Jackson squad that has won five straight games -- mostly close ones -- after starting 1-4.

Spencer at Washington County: This isn't the same Washington County team that went to the championship game last year. But the Golden Hawks closed the regular season with five wins in six games after an 0-4 start.

GHSA CLASS AA FIRST ROUND

Northeast at Brooks County: Two wins after a tumultuous 0-8 start put the Raiders in the playoffs. But they must now travel to Quitman to face a team that reached the semifinals in each of the past two seasons.

Putnam County at Fitzgerald: Resurgent Putnam County went 7-3 with just one runaway loss, losing to Region 4-AA champion Macon County by a field goal. But the War Eagles drew postseason veteran Fitzgerald, a team that hasn't lost in the first round of the playoffs since 2006.

Early County at Lamar County: The Trojans had 36 points scored on them last week by Macon County after giving up just 21 in the previous five games combined. Early County was the definitive No. 3 team in a strong Region 1-AA, behind Brooks County and Fitzgerald.

Swainsboro at Vidalia: Vidalia overcame an early season-ending injury to its top player to finish second in Region 2-AA and pick up a home game. Swainsboro finished the regular season at the .500 mark but claimed the No. 3 seed in a head-to-head tiebreaker over Metter. The winner likely has to travel to second-ranked Greater Atlanta Christian for the second round.

Pelham at Macon County: Macon County won Region 4-AA in convincing fashion last week over Lamar County. Pelham won its final two games by a combined seven points to make the playoffs.

GISA CLASS AAA QUARTERFINALS

Brookwood at Westfield: Both teams had easy first-round wins. Brookwood's only losses this season are to Deerfield-Windsor (27-16) and Valwood (17-14), with the Warriors going 3-0 against teams from Florida. Westfield is 9-0 since losing 55-28 to Valwood in late August.

John Milledge at Loganville Christian: John Milledge cruised to a first-round win over Bulloch, while Loganville Christian needed overtime to get past Southland. Both teams have strong defenses, with John Milledge allowing double-digit scoring in three games and Loganville Christian allowing double digits in two.

Gatewood at Deerfield-Windsor: Gatewood advanced to the quarterfinals as a No. 3 seed, while Deerfield cruised to an easy first-round win. Deerfield has won seven straight, while Gatewood is 2-2 in its past four games.

GISA CLASS AA QUARTERFINALS

Windsor at Piedmont: A rematch of a Sept. 28 barnburner at Windsor, with Piedmont winning 48-42. The Knights had an easy go of things last week against First Presbyterian Christian, while Piedmont had a bye.

Robert Toombs at Southwest Georgia: Robert Toombs handled Brentwood with ease last week, and the Crusaders now travel to Damascus to face a team that hasn't lost to an opponent from Georgia since mid-September.

GICAA DIVISION I-A SEMIFINALS

Skipstone at Fullington: This semifinal is a rematch of an Oct. 23 game won 42-14 by Fullington. The winner meets Thomas Jefferson or Unity Christian in next week's championship.

GICAA DIVISION I-AA SEMIFINALS

Community Christian at Covenant: Covenant's quest for an undefeated season continues against a team it defeated 37-13 in mid-October. A win allows Covenant to host the Division I-AA championship game next week against the Calvary Christian-Creekside Christian winner.

GICAA EIGHT-MAN QUARTERFINALS

CFCA at Praise Academy: The Lancers open the postseason against the defending GICAA eight-man champion.
