Middle Georgia teams set to enter GHSA football playoffs
The GHSA football playoffs begin this week, and several Middle Georgia teams have earned the right to host first-round games.
Houston County's win over Northside on Friday forced a three-way tie atop Region 2-AAAAA. The Bears get the No. 1 seed and host South Effingham, while the Eagles are the No. 2 seed and host Ware County. Jones County, the other team tied at the top, travels to Glynn Academy. Warner Robins travels to Coffee.
Houston County will host its game Friday at McConnell-Talbert Stadium, while Northside will host at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
In Class AAAA, Mary Persons won its first region title 1997 in Region 2-AAAA to earn a No. 1 seed, and the Bulldogs host Wayne County. Veterans, the fourth seed, travels to Thomson, while West Laurens hosts Burke County and Upson-Lee travels to Liberty County.
In Class AAA, Peach County hosts Josey, while Westside travels to Laney. Washington County and Dodge County are both home, with Washington County hosting Spencer. Dodge County will host Maynard Jackson.
In Class AA, Northeast travels to Brooks County, while Fitzgerald hosts Putnam County, Macon County hosts Pelham, Lamar County hosts Early County and Vidalia hosts Swainsboro.
The Class A brackets will be released this week, with those teams having this week off.
