GMC repeats as GHSA Class A public school softball champion

The GMC softball team won its second straight GHSA Class A softball title Saturday in Columbus.

The Bulldogs beat Trion 4-2 to win the week with a 4-0 record. They allowed five runs in their run to the championship and beat Trion twice during the week.

Houston County and Stratford reached their championship rounds but couldn't get a win to force a winner-take-all title game.

The Bears beat Greenbrier 9-5 to get into the Class AAAAA championship round but lost 2-1 to Chapel Hill, which beat Houston County 3-0 on Friday. The Eagles beat FPD 4-1 to move into the Class A private school championship round but lost 8-0 to Eagle's Landing Christian.

In Class AA, Vidalia lost 3-1 to Gordon Lee to force a winner-take-all game. Gordon Lee then took the title with a 14-1 win.
