Playoff outlook for GHSA Region 2-AAAA

WHO'S IN

Mary Persons 8-0, 4-0

IN CONTENTION

Veterans 4-4, 3-1

Games remaining: at Howard, vs. Upson-Lee

West Laurens 6-2, 3-1

Games remaining: at Perry, vs. Mary Persons

Upson-Lee 6-2, 3-2

Games left: vs. Osborne (non-region), at Veterans

Howard 5-3, 1-3

Games remaining: vs. Veterans, at Baldwin

Easiest remaining schedule: Howard (barely, with Veterans at home).

Toughest remaining schedule: Veterans (Howard is playing for its postseason life this week, and the Warhawks could be playing for theirs in a week).

Scouting report: It's quite the mess and can really become a jam if Howard beats Veterans, because the Huskies would then be solid favorites over Baldwin.

Then Veterans and Upson-Lee again would play out for the final spot, or not, because, again, it could be a mess.

All four teams have a game with the other contenders, and through all that, the top seed is likely to come down to West Laurens at Mary Persons again in the regular-season finale.

But the region is so even, it's quite possible there could be a four-way tie for three spots.

The only clear thing is that Howard is in a must-win situation Friday against Veterans, which also has something of a must-win situation, because if the Warhawks ended up 3-3, they would lose tiebreakers with Upson-Lee and Howard. But Veterans can keep on playing with a loss to Howard so long as it beats Upson-Lee.

If Veterans beats Howard, then Week 10 is for seeding.
