Scouting report: The two newest public school programs in Middle Georgia meet in Macon. Howard, which dropped a double-overtime heartbreaker last week at Upson-Lee, needs wins over the Warhawks and at Baldwin, as well as an Upson-Lee win over Veterans next week, in order to make the playoffs. Veterans, which still has a mathematical shot at the region title, had a three-game winning streak snapped last week by Mary Persons.

PEACH COUNTY AT WESTSIDE

Game time/site: 7:30 p.m./Ed DeFore Sports Complex.

Series history: Peach County leads 3-2.

Last meeting: Peach County won 49-16 in 2014.

Scouting report: Last year, this game determined the GHSA Region 2-AAA champion. This year, with Jackson sweeping Peach County and Westside, the Trojans and Seminoles are essentially left to play for second place unless Jackson trips up against a sub-.500 team in the final two weeks of the regular season. After losing 22-16 ON Saturday at Spencer, Westside finds itself tied for third with Spencer and needing a win -- and maybe two wins -- to make the playoffs.

TWIGGS COUNTY AT FPD

Game time: 7:30 p.m.

Series history: FPD leads 3-0.

Last meeting: FPD won 55-28 in 2014.

Scouting report: With the sub-region's representative to the GHSA Region 7-A title game set, these two teams are playing for power rating points. FPD is currently the first team out in Class A private, but a resurgent run game has led to dominating wins over Tattnall Square and Wilkinson County and has raised the Vikings' postseason hopes. Twiggs County is probably in with one win in its final two games, with one more victory giving the Cobras their first .500 or better season since an 11-win season in 2009.

STRATFORD AT WILKINSON COUNTY

Game time: 7:30 p.m.

Series history: Stratford leads 1-0.

Last meeting: Stratford won 45-16 in 2014.

Scouting report: While Stratford already has a spot wrapped up in next week's Region 7-A championship game, both teams are playing for power rating points. A win would just about wrap up an at-large playoff spot for either team, while a loss might make next week a little dicey in terms of the playoff picture. Stratford has averaged 45 points per game in sub-region play, while Wilkinson County is coming off a 31-9 loss to FPD.

PUTNAM COUNTY AT MACON COUNTY

Game time: 7:30 p.m.

Series history: Macon County leads 5-0.

Last meeting: Macon County won 65-0 in 2014.

But will the War Eagles do a good job of putting last week's 24-0 loss at Lamar County behind them? The loss, and shutout, took some shine off this game, and the hosts have to avoid looking ahead to next week's trip to Lamar County.
