Finney shows some moves

Torrez Finney occasionally gets the chance to line up on the offensive side of the line after causing full-time problems from his spot at defensive tackle.

Friday, the Jones County senior made the most of it.

He gained 30 yards on a fake punt to set up the Greyhounds' first score in their 17-10 win over Evans.

"We had been working on it, and I was hoping I would have the chance," the usually-smiling Finney said. "I wanted to get in the end zone so bad. It's only the second time I have carried the ball this year so maybe Coach (Justin) Rogers will give me some more chances to carry it."

Playing for now

Mary Persons head coach Brian Nelson said his team is paying no attention to the big picture, like the Region 2-AAAA championship.

"We just haven't even brought it up," Nelson said after the Bulldogs' 24-10 win over Veterans. "In the last couple years, we've made such a big emphasis on it."

And Friday night was just another Friday night.

"That's who they are, that's their mentality," he said of his players, now 8-0. "Get some pizza and get on the bus."
