Windsor repeats as GISA Class AA softball champion
The Windsor softball team claimed its second straight GISA Class AA softball championship Saturday, sweeping Brentwood 12-1 and 8-2 at Georgia Southwestern in Americus.
The Knights (20-6) defeated David Emanuel in last year's championship series.
"It's unbelivable," Windsor head coach Leigh Ann Newberry said. "The girls stuck together and fought hard. We went undefeated in the postseason, and not many teams can say that. It's unbelievable the passion they have and the way they work."
Windsor scored in every inning of the first game, capping it with a six-run fifth inning that ended on a grand slam by Taylor Osborn.
Brentwood led for much of the second game, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. It wasn't until the sixth inning when Windsor managed to get its offense going.
Kassidy Hulett's two-out double tied things at 2, and the Knights took the lead on Kaley Sadler's base hit.
"The Brentwood pitcher threw really slow, and we were popping everything up," Newberry said. "It took us until the sixth put together hits. It literally took us about four, five innings."
Sydney Weiche tripled in both games. Holly Phillips was the winning pitcher in both contests.
