Mount de Sales rallies past FPD

After falling behind by 18 points in the first quarter Friday night, the Mount de Sales Cavaliers rallied for a 22-21 win over FPD.

The Cavaliers trailed 21-3 after the first quarter but came all the way back on a Pinkey Gilchrist 21-yard touchdown pass to Tres Hattaway with 45 seconds remaining. The Vikings had one final chance, but Brad Powell’s 47-yard field attempt was no good, sealing the Cavaliers’ comeback.

Hattaway finished with 100 yards rushing on 17 carries and 34 yards on five receptions. The Cavaliers pulled to within 21-10 on an Adrian Hardwick 57-yard run in the second quarter. And then Hattaway scored on a 2-yard run early in the fourth quarter.

FPD jumped on top on a 5-yard run by Armaun Smith, and after a 37-yard field goal by Mount de Sales’ Ryan Murphey, Daniel Weaver took a fake punt for a 70-yard score for the Vikings. Smith added a 73-yard punt return to make it 21-3 at the end of the first quarter.

The Vikings had won 11 of the previous 12 meetings in the series.
