Softball region title games slated for Thursday
GMC and Tattnall Square will meet in the GHSA Region 7-A championship game at 6 p.m. on Thursday in Milledgeville.
GMC, the Region 7B-A champion, defeated FPD 5-4 in eight innings on a two-run single by Sara Margaret Mason. Tattnall, the Region 7A-A champion, beat Stratford 14-5.
The winner earns an automatic bid into the GHSA playoffs, although all four teams that took part in Wednesday’s semifinals are expected to qualify.
Elsewhere, Houston County advanced to the Region 2-AAAAA championship game with a 1-0 win over Greenbrier. In Thursday’s 4 p.m., title contest at Houston County, the Bears will face the winner of Thursday’s 2 p.m. elimination final between Greenbrier and Jones County.
In Region 2-AAAA play in Dublin, Veterans claimed a title game slot with a 1-0 win over Mary Persons. In the 6 p.m. championship, the Warhawks will take on the winner of Thursday’s 4 p.m. elimination final between Mary Persons and West Laurens.
Rutland moved into the Region 2-AAA title game at the Western Little League fields with a 10-2 win over Peach County. In the 6 p.m. title game, the Hurricanes will take on the winner of Thursday’s 4 p.m. elimination final between Peach County and Jackson.
The 2-AAAAA, 2-AAAA and 2-AAA championship games are double elimination, meaning an extra game Thursday night is possible.
In Region 4-AA, Bleckley County hosts Lamar County at 5 p.m. in a single game for that region’s title.
