Mary Persons at Howard (Ed DeFore Sports Complex): This series has been one-sided in favor of Mary Persons, but improving Howard (5-1, 1-1 GHSA Region 2-AAAA) will finish at .500 or better for the first time in program history. Mary Persons is (5-0, 1-0) is one of three teams without a loss in region play, along with West Laurens and Veterans.

Tattnall Square at Stratford: Stratford (3-2, 1-0 Region 7A-A) is riding high following a 41-21 win over FPD and will share first place in the sub-region with the Wilkinson County-Twiggs County winner should the Eagles beat Tattnall. The Trojans (3-2, 0-1) were shut out by Wilkinson County in last week’s sub-region opener.

Wilkinson County at Twiggs County: The homestanding Cobras are opening some eyes all of a sudden, having won two straight by an average of 31.0-6.5. The Warriors are on a four-game winning streak and 4-1 for the first time since 2011.

West Laurens at Veterans: The Warhawks shrugged off a rout at Valdosta with a quality win at Baldwin and welcome a top-10 one-loss overall team in a game substantially more meaningful than last year’s meeting, a five-point Raiders win.

Westfield at Gatewood: Well, look here, a pair of teams undefeated in region play and with one loss overall battling in Eatonton. The Gators likely haven’t forgotten last year’s 49-14 loss in Perry.

Brentwood at Windsor: It’s the GISA Region 4-AA opener, with Windsor (4-2) hosting Brentwood (1-6).

Appling County at Dodge County: Three teams in Region 1A-AAA are unbeaten, and two of them play in Eastman. But the Indians are perfect overall and ranked.

Harlem at Dublin: The Irish might have the best team in 2-AA, but they’re 0-2 in region play and need a confidence-boosting win over the Bulldogs (2-4, 1-1).

Hawkinsville at Dooly County: The Red Devils are still in the region title hunt while the Bobcats are playing for their postseason life in a 4-A traffic jam.
