Stratford’s Quintez Cephus commits to Furman

Stratford point guard Quintez Cephus, who set the program’s single-game scoring record last season with a 53-point playoff performance against Providence Christian, committed to Furman on Wednesday.

The senior made his announcement on social media Wednesday afternoon. Stratford has scheduled a signing ceremony for 10 a.m. on Nov. 11, the first day of the early signing period for basketball.

Also signing that day will be Stratford softball’s Mary Wilson Avant, a senior pitcher who plans to sign with Georgia.

Cephus averaged 22.7 points per game last season and already holds Stratford’s all-time scoring mark with 1,960 points and career records in assists (462) and steals (388).

Last season, he also averaged 8.9 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.2 steals.

“We’re really excited about it,” Stratford head coach Jamie Dickey said. “It was a long process with the recruiting deal. He’s excited and appreciates all of the schools that have recruited him, but he felt he had to get out and start playing on his own.”
