Northside remains on top in Class AAAAA football poll
Northside kept its first-place spot in the Georgia Sports Writers Association Class AAAAA football poll following its 38-7 win over Evans.
The Eagles claimed 15 of the 17 first-place votes on ballots cast this week. Houston County, which dropped a spot to third in Class AAAAA, picked up the other two first-place votes following its 34-3 win Saturday over Grovetown.
The other two Middle Georgia teams in Region 2-AAAAA, Jones County and Warner Robins, also received recognition. Jones County sits in fifth, while Warner Robins was among other teams receiving votes. Ware County is second in the Class AAAAA poll, while Stockbridge is fifth.
Fitzgerald was the only other Middle Georgia team to receive first-place votes. The Purple Hurricane picked up four first-place votes in Class AA, coming second behind Benedictine. Macon County is fourth in that class, while Vidalia is tied for eighth with Darlington and Lamar County is 10th. Dublin (six points) was among others receiving votes.
West Laurens moved up a spot in the Class AAAA poll ahead of Friday’s matchup at Westside. The Raiders (3-0) are in fifth, three spots ahead of fellow Region 2-AAAA program Mary Persons, which was one of three teams to enter the Class AAAA poll this week. Howard picked up four points and is among other teams receiving votes.
Following a season-opening loss to Warner Robins, Peach County returned to the Class AAA poll in 10th place following its win over Perry. Westside (nine points) and Dodge County (four points) also received votes, while Washington County fell out of the poll following its loss to Mary Persons, its second loss of the season.
Tattnall Square was among others receiving votes in Class A.
