Southwest basketball falls short in state title matchup against Rabun County

Southwest High School boys basketball, from Macon, fell to Rabun County, from Tiger, 52-43 in the GHSA Division I Class A state championship at the Macon Coliseum on Friday.

The game marked the Southwest Patriots’ second consecutive state championship appearance. Before 2025, the team had not reached the championship since 1989. Last year, the Patriots lost to B.E.S.T Academy 62-56.

The Bibb County School District designated Friday a half-day for students within the Southwest High School zone, including Southwest, Ballard Hudson Middle School, Ingram Pye Elementary School and Southfield Elementary.

The Southwest Patriots completed an undefeated 13-0 season in region play and 29-7 overall, according to statistics from Maxpreps.
