Stratford's Kate Blankenship receives national soccer coaching honor

Stratford girls soccer head coach Kate Blankenship has been named to the 2015 “30 under 30” list of soccer coaches by the National Association of Soccer Coaches of America.

Blankenship, a 2006 Stratford graduate who went on to play and coach at UAB, was selected from a national pool of more than 500 candidates. According to a release from Stratford, she was the only high school coach selected, with the other honorees coming from the collegiate or club ranks.

As a player, Blankenship was a part of four GISA championship teams, serving as captain for two seasons. She also was UAB’s captain for two years.

Blankenship, who works with middle school physical education at Stratford, is also an assistant coach in the Eagles’ volleyball program.
