Middle Georgia football scores: Warner Robins makes history in blowout win

Here is a look at Friday night’s high school football games from around Middle Georgia.

Three stars of the week

1. Jalen Addie, Warner Robins quarterback: Addie could have a permanent home as a star of the week as he gets better with every game. The Demons struggled early on offense before a 43-yard touchdown throw from Addie to Armon Porter opened up the scoring in Warner Robins 47-0 win over Northside. From there, Addie found the end zone on the ground a couple times and threw for another score. When Addie is on his game, this team is hard to beat. Warner Robins looks like a contender again this year after finishing as the state runner up the last three years.

2. Dominic Sasser, Bleckley County quarterback: Sasser led Bleckley County to a gritty 21-14 win over Vidalia. He had a couple of big passing touchdowns to keep the Royals in the game. Bleckley County moves to 2-1 on the season. The Royals have a bye week on Oct. 2, giving them time to rest for their game against Dodge County on Oct. 9.

3. Warner Robins’ defense: The entire unit deserves credit for the win over Northside. For the first time since the 1979-1980 season, the Demons shut out the Eagles in back-to-back seasons. This team is loaded up front and did a good job getting pressure on the quarterback and stopping the rushing attack. Northside could not get a sustained drive going as Warner Robins allowed only a couple of big plays all night.

Best game

Warner Robins 47 vs Northside 0

The rivalry is the biggest game in Middle Georgia every year. This year was no different even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was another statement win for Warner Robins coach Marquis Westbrook and the Demons. Westbrook is 2-0 in this rivalry series and handed Northside its worst loss in the history of this game Friday night.

Warner Robins improves to 38-25 all-time against Northside and has won four straight dating back to 2017. The game opened with the teams trading punts before Warner Robins found its groove on offense. By halftime, the Demons were up 21-0. The one weakness for Warner Robins is its kicking game with a pair of missed extra points on the night.

What’s next

Warner Robins vs. Houston County

Oct. 2, 8 p.m.

Houston County (3-1) has back-to-back road wins over Coffee County and Statesboro. The Bears’ defense has been the key to their success so far, giving up less than 20 points in each of their first four games. But Houston County hasn’t faced an offense as good as Warner Robins’.

The Demons are 2-1 on the season and have dropped more than 40 points in each of their wins this season. Houston County can’t afford to get down early as its offense will not be able to keep up with Warner Robins if this turns into a track meet.

Peach County vs. Mary Persons

Oct. 2, 8 p.m.

Peach County and Mary Persons have been two of the most successful teams in Middle Georgia over the last 10 years. Each team usually is favored to win its region. But with realignment, this game is now a region matchup.

Mary Persons is coming off a blowout loss to Newnan but is 2-1 with wins over McDonough and Greene County. Peach County had a bye this week and is 1-1 after a loss in the opener to Northside before bouncing back to blow out Griffin 54-14 last week. The winner of this game could have an inside track to the region title.
