Southwest girls advance to the state championship game on last-second game winner

Southwest is heading back to Macon with a shot at a state championship after knocking off Rockmart 54-52 after coming back from down double digits in the fourth quarter on a buzzer-beater.

The Patriots were down 49-42 with less than four minutes to play. They cut the deficit down to one with 1:45 left before capping off the comeback with the game tied 52-52 with a buzzer-beating turnaround jumper by Junior power forward, Stangious Alford. The Patriots finished the game on a 19-6 run to complete the comeback.

Alford finished with a game-high 23 points and added 19 rebounds to help propel Southwest to the championship game on March 5 in Macon.

Southwest will take on the winner of Douglass and Early County, that game starts at 6 p.m.
