Former Stratford standout declares for the NFL draft after starring at Wisconsin
Former Stratford standout, Quintez Cephus, announced in a Twitter video Monday that he will be skipping his final year of eligibility at Wisconsin and declaring for the NFL draft.
Cephus was the Badgers leading receiver this season with 59 catches, 901 yards and seven touchdowns. He helped lead Wisconsin to the Big 10 championship game and the Rose Bowl.
“Q has meant a lot to this team,” Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst said in a release. “He has an infectious personality. He loves playing the game of football and you can see that joy when he is on the field. I am excited for his future and wish him all the best as he takes this step.”
Before going to Wisconsin, Cephus starred at Stratford as a basketball player and became the school’s first 2,000-point scorer. He committed to Furman to play basketball but committed to Wisconsin after his senior football season.
“I want to thank my coaches, Coach (Paul) Chryst and (Ted) Gilmore for believing in me, a kid from Macon, Georgia, who was a basketball player,” Cephus said in his video. “I want to thank my teammates for all the blood, sweat and tears that we have shed with each other.”
Cephus said he is proud of what he has accomplished in college but is ready for a new challenge in the NFL.
“I want to thank my family for sticking with me and having my back through it all,” Cephus said. “I am excited to declare for the 2020 NFL Draft.”
