Here are the Middle Georgia football players who signed with big-name programs
Early signing day saw some standout Middle Georgia players sign with big-name programs.
Wesley Steiner, a Houston County linebacker, signed with Auburn after a long-standing commitment to the team. He helped lead the Bears to the third round of the state playoffs as a senior and led the team in tackles with more than 115 on the season.
Steiner whittled his list down to four finalists before deciding between Auburn and Stanford. He said Auburn felt like the right fit based on his character and personality.
“Auburn has been the most well-received out of the four schools as in how I was received,” Steiner said. “I kinda let things happen the way they happened.”
Warner Robins wide receiver Marcayll Jones, a Memphis commit, signed with the Tigers. Jones holds the record for most receiving yards in a single season in Georgia.
He enjoys the offense style at Memphis, which was part of the reason he chose the school over teams like Georgia Southern and Georgia State.
“They treated me as more than just a football player. They took me in as a young man,” Jones said. “I am trying to take it as far as I can and I think their system can get me there. That was the main reason for me to choose Memphis over all of the other schools that offered me.”
Jontavis Robertson, a Jones County wide receiver, chose Duke over Georgia and Indiana. He created a bit of suspense when he picked up an Indiana hat before quickly dropping it for the Duke one.
Romello Height, a Dublin linebacker, went into the day committed to the University of Miami. But a late surge by Auburn proved to be the difference as Height flipped to the Tigers. He is the second linebacker from Middle Georgia to choose Auburn.
Here are some of the other signings from around the area.
