Here is a rundown of high school football scores and highlights from around Middle Georgia:

Perry 38, West Laurens 27

The playoffs started early for these two teams. This was a “win and you’re in” game. Perry fell behind early and looked to be on its way home for the offseason. The Panthers wouldn’t be denied, though, as they stormed back. Perry will move into the playoffs as the last seed in its region by grabbing it away from West Laurens.

Warner Robins 28, Veterans 0

The crosstown rivals were already on a collision course for a potential region-deciding game. This one took a big turn when Warner Robins was forced to forfeit its game against Harris County due to an ineligible player. The Demons showed why they were at the top all season long. Veterans couldn’t get the ground game going with Cyrus Zuell. Sebastian Verger struggled to get anything going downfield. Veterans is a good football team that could win a game or two in the playoffs. Warner Robins has a shot to go on a run to Atlanta for a state title game.

Peach County 28, Westside 12

Another region title was on the line in this one. Both teams came into the game with matching records at 7-2. Both also entered undefeated in the region. It was a slugfest all night long. The Peach County Trojans took all of the Seminoles best shots including a big-time one-handed interception that set up a touchdown. Both teams will make noise in the playoffs is my guess. Peach County could be looking at a run to Atlanta.

Mary Persons 60, Howard 14

Believe it or not, this game was close for awhile. Howard went down 21 points early but stormed back to make it a 21-14 game in the second quarter. This woke up the Bulldogs, and the offense poured it on from there. The Bulldogs capture the region title and finish the season undefeated heading into the playoffs. For the Huskies, the next step will be a playoff game of their own. Howard has had a remarkable season. This game simply shows the gap between Mary Persons and the rest of the region.
