Middle Georgia high school football scores, highlights: Underdogs unable to pull upsets
Here is the weekly wrap up of the high school football games from around Middle Georgia:
Coffee County 41 vs Houston County 14
Coffee County came into this game angry. Losing two straight after being ranked in the top two all season had many doubting this team. The Trojans came out flat once again and were only up 13-7 heading into the half. Houston County has hung with teams all year that they probably shouldn’t have been able to. Talent finally won out in this one. Coffee hung 21 points on the Bears in the fourth quarter.
Washington County 46 vs Southwest 22
The Southwest Patriots came into this one having been shutout last week against Dublin. Once again, the team was facing some tough odds as the underdogs. This team, under the direction of Coach Joe Dupree, simply does not give up. Washington County came out firing and jumped out to a 19-8 lead at half. The Patriots would then score 14 unanswered to grab a lead. Unfortunately, the clock didn’t run out fast enough as Washington County put up 27 in the fourth quarter.
Mary Persons 52 vs West Laurens 13
Quen Wilson continues to tear it up for the Bulldogs as he scored a few touchdowns on the night. This was all Mary Persons really needed because the defense was stout against West Laurens. This team continues to flex its muscles and looks like they will have a good shot to go undefeated this season.
Upson Lee 38 vs Howard 24
Howard looked as though that defense would carry them to another victory for much of the first half. Then, Upson Lee hit a deep pass for a touchdown. This was a thing a beauty. The quarterback pump faked hard then aired it out. The next drive out Upson Lee ran a toss sweep for a long touchdown run. Big plays hurt Howard all night long. The team hasn’t given up many of those this year, but has paid for it when it has.
