Depth on offensive, defensive lines puts a smile on Greg Street’s face

Greg Street smiled before the question was even completed.

Entering his sixth season as the head coach at Crawford County, Street is excited to see the Eagles’ offensive and defensive lines come together as a strength.

The Eagles, coming off a 5-4 season in 2016, open their 2017 season Aug. 26 at Pacelli.

“We’ve got everything down pat as far as offensive and defensive line goes. This is the first year at Crawford County that we’ll have a functional line where they’re not playing both ways,” Street said. “Previously, we’ve had guys playing up front going both ways the whole game. We’ve got numbers now. To have a kid who can actually rest, that’s extremely important.”

Jamorris Pickard, a senior, leads the groups up front, and he is joined by fellow seniors Michael Bloodworth and Eric Braswell, junior Bryce Vaughn and sophomore Casey Hancock.

“It’s very important,” Pickard said of the added depth up front. “It gives us more breaks this year than it did in the past. When you have rest like that, you won’t be worn out, especially in the big games. You can come out and play hard and know that you have extra people who can help you.”

Street said the Eagles have “27, 28 kids who are contributing” this season. Crawford County has gone 19-10 the past three seasons after going winless in Street’s first two seasons.

“Just to continue to build the culture in terms of kids giving all they’ve got for four quarters and not backing away from a challenge,” Street said of the goals for this year’s team. “We’ve got great kids here; the thing is getting those great kids to figure out what they can go ahead and do for 48 minutes.”
