Cody Farr excited about Covenant’s offensive change in his senior season

Covenant head coach Chris Oxford has a clear goal for Cody Farr this season. Oxford wants his senior quarterback to throw for more than 2,000 yards.

And Farr is ready for the challenge.

“I’m not too nervous about it. I think I’m ready for it,” Farr said. “I’ve been waiting for this a long time, being able to just let me loose and see what I can do this year.

“I’m excited about (Oxford’s goal of 2,000 yards). I’m hoping for it.”

Farr is entering his fourth season as the starter, and the Rams will switch to more of a spread off this season. That puts the team’s success squarely on Farr’s shoulders.

“We’re starting a new offense this year, which is giving us a little bit of excitement, more of a spread, and it’s going to be a no-huddle, which we’ve never done before. So it’s going to be an exciting year,” Farr said. “I feel like it will be a little bit of an adjustment. I think I’ll enjoy it more because last year running to the sidelines to get the plays, that was kind of a bug.

“So just being able to sit back in the pocket and looking at the field and then let the coaches just call the play in, I think that will be very good.”

The Rams finished 3-8 last season after winning a GICAA title in 2015. Oxford said this year’s team will lean on players like Farr, wide receiver Andrew Adams and linebackers Brandon Marsh and Tyler Mixon.

“If you asked what’s the key word on this year’s team different from last year’s team, this team is hungry,” Oxford said. “They want to come back after winning state a couple of years ago and come back and have a great season this year.”
