Stan looks to win AGann at Macon-Middle Georgia Championship
Stan Gann is looking to make history once again.
Last year, he joined the ranks of Arnold Blum and Jack Morgan of winning the Macon-Middle Georgia Championship for three straight years — the first time that has happened in 62 years.
But that’s old news. He’s looking to remake history and claim a fourth straight win this weekend.
“I’m just going to play my game,” Gann said.
That worked well last year for Gann as he shot a 65 in the first round and a 67 in the second round to win by two strokes. The first golfer will tee off at 8 a.m. on Saturday at the Brickyard at Riverside.
Gann, Shawn Hodge and Matthew Myers will tee off at 8:20 a.m. on Saturday in the first round. The tournament concludes Sunday.
Gann thinks there is going to be a little pressure on him to win the championship this year. He said he will have the thought of breaking a record like Blum’s and Morgan’s in the back of his head, but he ultimately wants to go out and play his best golf.
He practices a few times a week and just played in a qualifier. So Gann is fresh, and now it’s just a matter of hitting his putts and getting good shots to set him up.
The one thing he said he learned from last year was to stay grounded. He wants to keep things simple and not do anything different from what he normally would. Despite the history that he can make by winning, he has another incentive for winning the championship.
“I just want to bring the trophy back to Houston County,” he said.
