Kirby Smart’s Christmas recruiting gift hopes to keep giving.

Breon Dixon, a highly recruited linebacker who announced his commitment to Georgia on Christmas Day, said he has often been in the ear of his teammates at Grayson, the school he transferred to during the spring.

Formerly of Peachtree Ridge, Dixon joined a loaded Grayson roster featuring a ton of talented playmakers who are being recruited by numerous Division I programs.

Among the Grayson standouts he’s hoping to persuade to Georgia include athletes Jamyest Williams and Deangelo Gibbs, as well as offensive lineman Tony Gray — all three of whom also transferred to Grayson from Gwinnett County area high schools.

“I’m trying to recruit all of them,” Dixon said. “I’m working on a lot of guys. At the end of the day, I’m telling them to ‘make the best decision for you.’ But I’m always telling them, ‘I think the best decision for you is UGA.’ ”

Dixon said he has even been talking up Georgia to Grayson quarterback and Clemson commit Chase Brice in the event Smart and the offensive coaching staff start going after him.

Dixon, a four-star recruit according to the 247Sports.com composite, is certainly someone who can help Georgia in recruiting on a team loaded with next-level players.

With the defensive talent around Dixon in his senior year of high school, he’s expected to play and focus mostly on Sam linebacker in 2016, Grayson head coach Jeff Herron said. When Dixon comes to Georgia, however, his responsibilities could increase.

At 6-feet and 214 pounds, Dixon said the Georgia coaching staff talked about him being a playmaker who moves around quite a bit on the defensive side of the ball.

“I’ll probably spread out a little,” Dixon said. “I may play some strong safety, stack over some inside linebackers. On first and second downs, I can stack inside and play the run and then bump out to Will (linebacker) and not have to bring in another DB in and do all that. It’s easy transitions like that, making sacks off the edge and things like that while covering the slot receivers.”

Dixon also said he’s excited about being able to play in a defensive scheme coordinated by Mel Tucker, since he brings a ton of NFL experience to the table.

Herron, entering his first season at Grayson after successful tenures at Oconee County, Camden County and Prince Avenue Christian, said Dixon has fit well into his three-linebacker defensive scheme thus far.

“He’s handled that very well,” Herron said. “He’s deceptively fast. He’s good coverage-wise and a tough tackler.”

Smart and Tucker both developed a relationship with Dixon on the recruiting trail when the coaches were at Alabama. That helped make the Georgia commitment easy, considering Dixon pledged a little more than two weeks after picking up his Georgia offer. And while Dixon is a local recruit, he wouldn’t have gone to Georgia simply because it’s the biggest in-state program. A lot of Dixon’s decision came down to Smart and the vision he has for the Bulldogs.

Since Smart was hired in early December, Dixon said the atmosphere at Georgia has changed tremendously, which has him excited about the future.

“Just his attitude that he brings to the table — he makes everybody feel like it’s something new,” Dixon said. “He brings a championship vibe, and that’s what everybody feeds into. Just like Grayson, we have a championship vibe. Everybody wants to be a part of that.”
