Former University of Georgia running back Danny Ware spends night in jail on DUI charge
Former Georgia running back Danny Ware spent Saturday evening in the Athens-Clarke County jail on a driving under the influence of alcohol charge.
According to jail logs, Ware was booked at 9:12 p.m. and was set to spend 24 hours in confinement for a DUI arrest. It’s possible he’s serving his punishment for a previous arrest that occurred a year ago.
A year ago this weekend, in the early morning of May 6, 2015, Ware was arrested and charged with DUI, possession of marijuana, reckless driving and speeding.
In 2008, he was arrested on pedestrian under the influence and pedestrian in the roadway charges.
Ware played football at Georgia from 2004-06 and was a member of the 2005 SEC Championship team. After turning pro following his junior season in 2006, Ware went on to have a seven-year NFL career as a special teams contributor and backup running back. He played five years with the New York Giants and was a part of the 2007 and 2011 Super Bowl winning teams. He also had stints with the Tennessee Titans, New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Ware tragically lost his 3-year-son, Danny Josiah Ware, in late January. Ware's son, living with his mother in Houston, was struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle.
"My life has been a roller coaster in every (sense) of the word," Ware wrote on his Facebook page after his son's death. "From high school to college to NFL. I've never had it easy nor have I ever forgotten where I come from. I pray the lord to give me a sign."
