Details of UGA’s Juwuan Briscoe’s Saturday evening arrest
Juwuan Briscoe’s arrest for not having a driver’s license is a bit clearer now.
According to the police report, Briscoe does not have a valid driver’s license and presented an officer an ID only card during a traffic stop. By not being a licensed driver in any state, Briscoe was taken into police custody and arrested.
Briscoe was arrested Saturday night for not wearing a seatbelt, which was observed from an officer while he was driving down on West Broad Street.
The reason Briscoe only had an ID card and not a valid driver’s license was that he went to the Department of Driver Services and failed his driving test. Therefore, he left with just an ID only card instead of a license.
Both of the charges Briscoe was arrested for are misdemeanors and constituted a $500 bail for each. Briscoe was booked at 9:07 p.m. on Saturday and was released 10:11 p.m. He was arrested by University of Georgia police.
His vehicle was released to Georgia’s director of player wellness Bryan Gantt.
It is not expected for Briscoe to serve a suspension as Georgia typically does not impose missed games due to traffic-related arrests.
Following spring practice, Briscoe earned one of Georgia's Most Improved Player awards. He played with the first-team defense at Georgia's annual G-Day spring game. It's unknown if Briscoe will face any disciplinary action as head coach Kirby Smart has yet to comment or release a statement.
Briscoe is the fifth Georgia player to be arrested since Smart was hired by Georgia. Defensive lineman Chauncey Rivers (possession of marijuana) was arrested in December and defensive lineman Jonathan Ledbetter (underage possession of alcohol) was arrested in March.
Freshmen Julian Rochester and Chad Clay were arrested earlier in April on felony possession of a weapon, a BB gun, in a school and criminal damage to property.
