With a mostly uneventful week of college football in the books, Georgia remained at No. 7 in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings.

The Bulldogs were No. 1 in the first two weeks of the poll but dropped six spots after a loss to then-No. 10 Auburn. While none of the teams in front of Georgia, there was one change in the top six, with Miami moving up to No. 2. This week’s top six is No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Miami, No. 3 Clemson, No. 4 Oklahoma, No. 5 Wisconsin and No. 6 Auburn.

While Georgia is still sitting at No. 7, it has a great chance at cracking the top four if it wins its remaining two games against Georgia Tech and in the SEC Championship

First of all, No. 1 Alabama and No. 6 Auburn will play in the annual Iron Bowl Saturday. The loser of that game will not make the SEC Championship and therefore have a difficult time getting into the playoff — although Ohio State got in the playoff last season by not winning the Big Ten.

The ACC Championship will feature No. 2 Clemson and No. 3 Miami in two weeks. Assuming both teams win this weekend, the matchup will likely serve as a de facto play-in game to the playoff.

Georgia has already punched its ticket to the SEC Championship and will play the winner of the Alabama-Auburn game. A win there would give the Bulldogs an SEC title and likely propel them into the top four.

With that in mind, safety J.R. Reed said there isn’t much concern about where Georgia is ranked at the moment.

“We know if we win out we’ll probably be where we want to be,” Reed said. “I don’t really pay attention to it at all. I just keep scrolling and look at Twitter every now and then. Sometimes it pops up, sometimes I won’t find out probably Wednesday or Thursday.”

Georgia is set to take on Georgia Tech this Saturday in Atlanta at noon.
