Ex-UGA linebacker shifting from gridiron to squared circle
Amarlo Herrera once slammed opposing running backs to the ground. Now he’s looking to throw a different type of body slam, one that might involve getting up on the top turnbuckle and taking a flying leap.
According to Dawgs247, Herrera, who played for Georgia from 2011-14, tried out for the WWE last week at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.
Herrera, who played briefly for the Indianapolis Colts in 2015, was a member of the Tennessee and Washington practice squads in 2016. Now a free agent, Herrera was one of 40 prospective wrestlers who auditioned.
The tryout, according to a release from WWE, was a three-day camp led by WWE Performance Center head coach Matt Bloom. Also at the tryout were CrossFit competitor and former Arizona swimmer Lindsey Kelly, reigning “Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Challenge” winner Hunter McIntyre, former Oregon State defensive tackle Noke Tago, ex-Missouri football player Joe Maples and former Appalachian State wrestler Denzel DeJournette, among others.
